How to Set Up Netflix Using an Activation Code

Netflix is kind of like a modern day HBO. The streaming service provides older television shows and movies, and in recent years has produced some of the most compelling original shows available anywhere. But to make the most of Netflix, you’ll need a system with built-in Netflix support, or the ability to install a Netflix app.

In some instances — as on an iPad — setting up Netflix is as simple as signing a username and password into your account. Other times you will find yourself staring at a screen with a random sequence of numbers and letters — otherwise known as an activation code — and instructions on your computer to visit Netflix.

When you connect a Wi-Fi compatible Blu-ray player or TV to your Netflix account, you will most likely encounter such a screen.

Here’s what to do when presented with a Netflix activation code:

  • Launch a web browser on any computer you ‘re able to access from — like your smartphone , laptop or Desktop.
  • Using the address bar to navigate to netflix.com/activate.
  • If required, sign in to your Netflix account.
  • In the box insert the activation code displayed on your TV.
  • Click “Activate” button.

Your computer will reboot a few seconds later and pull up your Netflix account. While the extra steps for a secondary system that seem inconvenient, bear in mind that on this computer you will never have to enter a username and password — so this is a great convenience.

Happy Streaming!
